It's Time To Come Home.
- 11/13/2021
I am originally from Alamogordo, and moved away about 9 years ago. We are now seriously considering on moving back to this little small town. After being away in a large city that has grown to almost a half a million, I miss this small town. Big cities aren't for everyone and this old timer is ready for some quiet life for a change. We miss the sunshine too! I'm not listing the state I'm currently at, but it's outgrown this country boy. Sometimes you don't realize what you had until you left it all behind. We hope to come back to The Land of Enchantment soon!

The school system in Alamogordo NM is terrible. The high school here has the highest GRADS program in the state which is teen moms dual enrolled. They do no offer nearly enough extra curricular, nor do they offer Advanced Placement for

Alamogordo Living
- 3/3/2012
I've lived in Alamogordo for two years now after living in Tacoma, Washington (too much rain, too much crime) for 20 years. Generally, it's a nice little conservative town with low crime, cheap housing and little traffic - probably a good place to retire. However, I can't stand desert living! There's too much sun, no lakes/rivers/ocean and too much brown everywhere(yuck)! I can hardly wait to move almost anywhere else that has more water, trees & isn't so

This little town....
- 5/28/2009
I have now lived in Alamogordo, NM for 5 years. My husband however has been here for pretty much his entire life. The reasons why we love living here can be summed up into a few words....simple, quiet, sweet, enjoyable. Our family loves to visit the big cities but not to live there. The crime rate is too high in them and they are way to noisy and busy for us. This little town has its restaurants, movie theater, plenty of sports for the kids, good schools, nice people, Wal-Mart :), and some nice places surrounding it. Ruidoso is a beautiful place to go snow skiing! wonderful cabins, and nice eating...1 hour away. Cloudcroft is the same, beautiful scenery in the mountains, nice cabins, all around sweet place to visit...30 min away. Las Cruces has a little more of a party scene for those that like that, more clubs/bars, has a mall, nice food places, and some shopping stores like Old Navy, Hobby Lobby, etc.. 1 hour away. El Paso is 1 1/2 hours away. That's where we got our closest

Best Places in New Mexico to Live
- 2/10/2009
Alamogordo is known for the atomic bomb, and white sands missile range. But for me, it's the best place on earth to live, raise a family and enjoy a moderate climate and clean mountain

Maybe an Ideal Climate
- 12/24/2007
Alamogordo is a city of about 35,000+ in South-Central New Mexico. We're located against the Western flanks of the Sacramento Mountain Range. About 15 miles West is the White Sands National Monument, a unique place in all the Earth, in which crystalline gypsum sands form when the mineral-laden waters wash down from the San Andres Mountains to the West, and pool in "playas" (natural depressions). As the playas dry, the mineral waters form crystals which are then broken up through the action of weather and collect and drift as "sand" dunes across the floor of the Tularosa Basin. Unlike true sand, the White Sands are formed primarily of gypsum, rather than silica. The color is truly WHITE, very like snow in its appearance.
About 60 miles and one hour West is the city of Las Cruces, the largest city in Southern New Mexico. 85 miles and 1-1/2 hours South is El Paso, Texas, the closest big city to Alamogordo. Albuquerque, NM is about 3-1/2 hours North, and is the largest city

plain and simple- don't move here!
- 9/4/2007
I hate to be the pessimist here, but if I had known what this place would be like when we got the choice of Alamogordo, NM or Germany- I would have chose Germany hands-down! I'm a young adult, female Hispanice, married for 2 years- this place has almost torn me and my husband apart! For our anniversary this year we had to go 'food-tasting' because we were on a budget and there's nothing to do here! You have to drive at least an hour to go do anything fun- here it's mexican food, chinese food, american food, and your occasional outdoor sports. They have a couple bike shops and a long road that goes over a few hills. An hour away there's a lake that's open during the summer that you can go to to rent kayaks, paddleboats, and go to fish. People are blind to the fact that there are drugs being used at the workplaces here, the children barely get an education at school, and either no one cares about their pets anymore or they just keep multiplying! There are stray cats and dogs all over
